Westfield, a second home [Wednesday
[05.20.09]
1019P]

[ mood | contemplative ]

To all of you who are either entering Westfield for the first time, or are still a student, I sincerely hope that you will come to love Westfield as much as I did (and still do). My advice to you is to take part in as many activities as you can. Really get involved in Westfield and explore it. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones to make it into those underground tunnels, haha. (Don't count on it though.)
I hope that, while you are deciding on a major or are already signing up for one, take some courses in subjects you might never have considered. Try pottery 1, creative writing, intro to communications, or even the sensory and perception class offered in psychology. Trust me, those classes are amazing and I found them to be really interesting.
I do hope you come to love Westfield as much as I do. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. :)

I'm Erin, majoring in Bio in the fall. it wasn't my number 1 by any means but I honestly can't afford to go anywhere else. I'm commuting, my boyfriend and a lot of people from Ludlow go there. May try out for the softball team, will defiantly do intramurals. The campus seems nice but I think its a little too small for me. I'm going to the june 20th orientation. thats mee

i know that this community has gone by the wayside during certain times of the semester, however i am hoping that enough people still notice their friends list to help out on a survey for foundations of comm research
more info && the short survey itself is located at my livejournal HERE

however, first&foremost the survey is optional
and it is completely confidential
all comments are screened
and my email address is provided for those who prefer email
i will be the only one who knows the identity (and in some cases thats even just the lj user name) of the participants. not even my teacher will know.
so if you are a current student AT ANY SCHOOL and you're between the ages of 17-22, please take some time to fill out the survey.
thanks!

i was reading the wsc page today for welcoming week and discovered that the GSA is having a welcoming reception... there's no contact info & no contact info on the clubs/organizations page either. i want to go to this but am in class.

my partner and i already have permission (location, time, date, etc) for a transgender day of remembrance for this november and i'd like to work with the GSA. i've put on this event twice before, at different colleges, and so i know what i'm doing but want to have more people involved.

does anyone have any contact info for the club? advisor's name, officers? anything?

thanks.

Hello, I'm Laura. As of this fall I'll be a Psychology major, and I might pick up a double major in Criminal Justice. Anyone here doing the same? I'm transferring in after having left Mass. College of Art as a junior in 1999, so this will be a huge change. I'm not sure yet what year I'm going in as, I'll find out at orientation on the 16th. I'm hoping I'm *at most* a sophomore, seeing as fine art and psych credits aren't all that interchangeable, and I've got a lot of catching up to do!

This is going to be exciting!

Cheers!

Westfield State College Student E-mail Accounts [Wednesday

OK, I know this question has probably been asked before, but I scrolled through the most recent entries of this community (all the way up to 40 entries back, which went back to April 2006) and I didn't find the answer, so I'm going to ask it again:

How do you get into your Westfield State College student e-mail account?

I of course want to know this mainly for Facebook purposes at the moment (lol), but I'm sure this information will prove very useful in the future as well.

I now have my CWID (the number that begins with an A), but I have no idea what the password would be. Am I correct to assume that the A number is my username/login ID? Is the password your birthday? Social Security Number?

If anyone can help me out with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

Healing Fire [Friday
[04.27.07]
1202P]

boidragon
Healing Fire
May 2, 4pm- May 3, 4pm (24 hours)

This event will help to bring awareness to sexual and domestic violence. Special focus will be on campus violence due to the alleged rape that occurred on the WSC campus this semester. This event will span at least 24 hours and will include a Healing Fire. The Healing Fire was started in Burlington, VT and symbolizes healing, hope, unity, wholeness, and cleansing (please see http://www.gedakina.org/HealingFire.html). Participants may write dates, names, prayers, words of encouragement and survival on wood or paper and burn them to help further or begin the healing process and as a physical symbol of cleansing.

Information will be provided to all who come to this event. This information will include fact sheets, statistics, hotline numbers, local and campus resources, helpful websites, etc. This event is all-inclusive and warmly accepts people of all faiths, genders, sexualities, sexes, ethnicities, abilities, ages, races, classes, and personal backgrounds. Male survivors and GLBQTI survivors are encouraged to attend. To promote awareness, this event will be open to the community as well as WSC students, faculty, and staff. This is beneficial due to the large commuter population at WSC.

The following will be strictly enforced: no drugs, no smoking, no alcohol, no profanity, no discrimination, etc. This event is for awareness and healing; respect is required and those who are disrespectful will be asked to leave.

The structure of this event will include an opening and closing secular prayer for healing, and an opening and closing speak-out. Participation is optional. People can stay for any amount of time.

Community Voices: Adam Rubinstein [Monday
[04.23.07]
155P]

dkeali_i
Monday, April 23 - Adam Rubenstein (former local poet in a long overdue repeat performance) will take the stage at Jester’s Café and Deli’s Community Voices Poetry Open Mic.

Adam Rubinstein hails from suburban Boston. At 18, he took over hosting at a tiny and awesome coffee shop reading south of Boston. At Hampshire College, he ran the Slam Collective for one year and studied the interactions between poetry, typography, and performance. He may have coached the 2004 Hampshire/Smith College Unions slam team. He's been writing for twelve years and designed for five, and worked with poet Martín Espada in several classrooms. His undergraduate thesis, Back Away Closer, was a 78-page hand-bound poem-book exploring the loss of home and the search for identity. For a brief time he served as Art Director for a local Albuquerque culture/life magazine.

Jester's is located at 124 Elm St. (Rtes 10/202) in Westfield, MA. The open reading begins at 7:30 followed by our feature.

Kick back with a sandwich or a tasty beverage and enjoy this one of a kind poet.

The venue is pg-13 and we pass around the "basket" to tip our feature.

Want OUT of your housing contract? CONTACT ME!!! [Sunday
[04.8.07]

[ mood | determined ]

First of all, thank you to all who offered me advice on the housing situation at Westfield State. I really appreciate your insights.

On the advice of one of my respondents, I am seeking anyone who has already paid their housing deposit for the 2007-2008 school year and WANTS OUT of their housing contract. If this applies to you, I would greatly appreciate it if you got in contact with me so that I may possibly fill your spot and have a better chance at getting housing for the fall. You can send me an e-mail at Haycee417@yahoo.com, or send me a message on either Facebook or MySpace.

Heather Colleen McMahon's Facebook profile

My MySpace - http://www.myspace.com/haycee

Also, if worse comes to worse and I am unable to get housing even from getting on the wait list, etc...do you think there's a way I could get housing in the Spring of 2008? Would I have a better chance then do you think? Unfortunately, without housing I can not attend Westfield State (because I'm from Stoneham [Boston Area] which is 2 hours away and I have neither a car nor license), so is it possible to get on the housing waitlist without actually attending the school? Or am I just totally screwed in every direction? I'd really like to get into Westfield State for the fall, but with everything that people have told me, I am thinking that it is unlikely and I might as well just wait for the Spring.

Well, whatever - thank you again to all who tried to help me...and remember if you want out of your housing agreement, let me know!!!

P.S. Credit-wise, I should be coming in as a junior - I don't know if that matters a lot, but don't they usually want people with a lot of credits for on-campus apartments and stuff like that? Oh and not to mention I am over 21 so that might be something to consider as well. I'm not saying that I think either of those facts matter much, but who knows - maybe they do to some people (although probably not enough to get housing, I know). So there you have it.

P.P.S. I apologize if I sounded like a bitch in my last post - I was just frustrated with the school lol - I'm sure you've all been there.
